Progressives are like the man who only has a hammer- to him all problems look like nails that must be beaten down. They also value only one "tool"- reason, and so everything appears to them as a problem or puzzle that must be solved. While reason obviously has its uses, think how exhausting it must be to see everything from this perspective. Acceptance, contentment, enjoyment and even satisfaction, aside from the momentary pleasure of "solving" a dilemma, is denied them.
Even religion offers no solace. Instead it is converted into a guilt inducing social welfare vehicle with which more of the world's problems will be solved. Not for them the spiritual exploration and search for transcendence- not with all the things that need fixing!
Not even the fallibilities modern psychology have revealed about "objective" reason deter them in their relentless pursuit of perfection. Things like cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias are swept under the rug as reason is trumpeted as Man's [or perhaps the more unisexual Person's] greatest gift and the secret of all things, not noticing the irony that their own emotional predispositions are what imbue rationality with its supremacy.
The truth is, they are to be pitied, for their lives are lacking so much. However, because they have infected modern society so greatly with their pathological obsession that "progress" is not only aspired to but demanded by just about every society on Earth, we are all suffering for it. Like an uncontrollable virus, a belief spreads by infection and propagation, and we have all been touched by it.
All this because Progressives have only one tool. How unreasonable is that.
