Socialism takes hold in places where people are facing severe financial hardship. It is not a utopian system, but rather an act of desperation, fed by envy, that lashes out in a bid to survive.
This truism explains why Russia had a revolution and not
Germany, much to Marx’s surprise. His knowledge of human behavior was non-existent.
It also explains why Western Europe followed socialism after
WWII- they had been decimated economically and were ripe for a system that
would spread the wealth.
The key point to understand is that Socialism really only is
attractive to those who cannot do better in the market system [we’ll ignore the
wealthy progressives who espouse socialism while all the while protecting their
riches offshore. Their true reward is controlling the Socialistic Society they
create, and therefore being “above” the masses they secretly detest while
publicly proclaiming].
Perhaps this explains why Obama does some of the things he
does.
For instance, the longer the US is on the verge of
recession, the higher unemployment is, and the farther home values sink, the
greater is the number of people who can do better with government handouts than
they can do individually. The weaker the economy, the greater the number of desperate people who
will need government largesse to survive.
As far as the deficit is concerned, taxes on the “wealthy”
along with increased regulations and mandates via Frank-Dodd and Obamacare will
keep the economy, and therefore jobs, depressed, once again increasing the pool
of redistribution supporters.
All those perplexed by the Administration’s actions and
confused as to how things are going to get better, are missing the point.
The worse things get, the better it will be if you are
trying to establish Socialism as the government/economic model. Looked at this way, everything Obama is doing
makes a lot more sense. Socialism doesn’t win by creating great programs that
entice the successful. Rather it takes hold by making people desperate to
survive and willing to grasp at a lifeline. As Obama continues his efforts, our
country is sinking faster and faster, and more and more of us need to be
rescued.
If we don't change things, a tipping point will be
reached , and enough people will be dependent on the government that it
will be impossible to save our economy and way of life. With 47% of
taxpayers not paying Fed Income Tax already, we are frighteningly close.
Unless the Republicans can hold the line on taxes, we may have no hope.
