Ethiopia's manhandling of the radical Islamic insurgency in Somalia is already causing the Liberal media to make comparisons with the Cold War when the US and Soviet Union used other countries as pawns in their worldwide battle for influence. While we should be used to this, reading them lament over the poor Somalian victims of the implied imperialistic US and its puppets is disturbing and frightening because of what it implies about their take on the world.

article in Time titled
A Dark Deja Vu in Somalia essentially makes the argument that the US is distorting a regional conflict for its own purposes by viewing it through the "prism" of the war on Terror. To be fair the writer does mention that Bin Laden has warned the West to stay out of Somalia which seems to indicate that perhaps their is a radical Islamic element involved, but this is quickly passed over to discuss the historical Ethiopian- Somalian animosity over territory, implying that this is just business as usual for these two neighbors.
He also gets to describe the Muslims as "ragtag and mostly teenage light infantry", conjuring up an image of the US attacking kids, and even says that most Somalians welcome the Islamic overthrow of local warlords even though some seem to chaff under the Taliban like oppression which has replaced them.
All this is basically from Liberal Foreign Affairs 101 , where the US is the imperial oppressor who ignores the situation on the ground and the best interests of the natives to pursue is agenda. And like all stock Liberal thinking, it is unmitigated nonsense.
Where was this writers concern when the Muslims were running roughshod over the country, in the process usurping the authority of the internationally recognized government, which he casually dismisses as "beleaguered and unpopular " as if this justifies what is basically a fundamentalist rebellion?
Suddenly the UN's imprimatur is not important, and the opinion of the international community is inconsequential? Wow, when did I miss the delegitimization of the East River Gang, or is their permission only important when it comes to US actions?
And how can anyone in their right mind not see the Islamic faction as another piece of the jihad that is threatening to reestablish the caliphate? These guys are not exactly shy about announcing their intentions, and yet this reporter refuses to see them for what they are, while insisting on viewing the US as something we are not, in this case an imperialistic oppressor.
So not just content with having us retreat form Iraq, the MSM is now going to attack our efforts throughout the world to stop the Islamists on the premise that we are reenacting the Cold War to the detriment of the nations who are our "pawns".
Well, we won the Cold War, and I for one am proud that we waged it for 40 years until we prevailed. The only reason people like this reporter are free to write drivel like this is because we made the world safe for him.
And now we are facing an enemy just as dangerous, and we have to use all our resources if we are to succeed. And we don't need the MSM glancing down from their ivy tower and criticizing the tactics we use because they don't feel they are "humane" or "civilized" or politically correct. During peacetime we can put up with the intellectual blather of Liberals, but during war it can get us killed. It is time the American people said "Enough!".
