Wonders never cease- the NY Times published an
article today which accurately assesses the military situation in Iraq, and explains why leaving prematurely [whether you call it phased withdrawal, pulling back, putting more responsibility on the Iraqi forces or any of the other euphemisms for cut and run that the Dems advocate] is not really an option. Granted, it comes a week after the elections when it can do no harm to the Democratic candidates who have never seen a military engagement they could stomach, but better late than never. Perhaps this is an indication that the Liberals, now that they have power, will be more realistic about Iraq. Or maybe this one just snuck past their internal censors. Whatever the reason, enjoy it; it maybe a long time before you get to agree with Times again!
